Director’s message 74

May 31, 2022

Community members of the International School of Ouagadougou,

With just under three weeks remaining in the 2021 – 2022 School year, there is still much teaching and learning to be done at the International School of Ouagadougou. In Upper School, we are very much looking forward to our Final Exam week which begins on Monday, June 6th.

As Director, I would like to personally extend my appreciation, on behalf of our faculty, to our proactive parent community for their commitment in supporting our school, and for working with us to strengthen our overall program. That strengthening will continue as part of our goal of ongoing continuous improvement, as we will welcome several new members to our teaching community.

As you are already aware, change and transition are two constants here at the International School of Ouagadougou. Sadly, our history has shown that we can expect up to 20% of our student population to change over the next few months. However, on the Teaching side, I am honored to announce that our school will have one of the highest retention rates among all International Schools worldwide. Approximately 85% of our teachers will be returning, for a third, eighth, or even twentieth year here at ISO!

Even though, next year, most of our present ISO teachers will be returning, the research continues to point to you as being your students’ first and most important teachers. That (as I discovered, some 6 years ago) is a job that lasts a lifetime.

Parents, please remember … classmates and teachers may come and go, and schools may change. However, it is YOU, the parent, who is, and will always be, your child’s first and most important teacher.

The International School of Ouagadougou is pleased to continue to be able to support you in this role, as we have six “new” teachers who will be joining us in August, for the 2022 – 2023 School Year:

  • Adrian Horton
  • Joanna Dempster Bashir
  • Janay Washington
  • Isaac Marrero Domngal
  • Luke Pinney
  • Sarah Pinney

As our information and projections for next year solidify, more quickly than in prior years, we anticipate that we can inform our community, and our teaching staff, of the “projected” teaching assignments – before the conclusion of this school year.

Please join me in welcoming the newest members of our team in August to the International School of Ouagadougou!

Have a great afternoon.

Jeff (who will be returning with Hassia and Saleena Trudeau for both a third and fourth year.)

Indeed! As per the Biographies that were sent out, the best is yet to come!!

Jeff
