By collaborating with local partners to address community needs, service learning helps ISO achieve its mission to promote cultural understanding and community involvement. As well, service learning provides students with the opportunity to grow in all of the 5C’s or core values of ISO: communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and community.

In 2018, the service learning project M'Gomda was presented the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) Outstanding Service Project award for its phone app which helped build Burkinabe students capacity to practice English skills.

Students selected for the AISA Student Service Leader award include Roxane Somda in 2018 and Hulda Compaore in 2017.
